Casa Mayito in Cartagena Colombia

Embraced by centuries-old colonial stone walls that encircle a maze of quaint cobblestone streets and winding alleyways, ornate balconies draped in swathes of bright pink bougainvillea, and crumbling churches that stand sentry over shady plazas. Cartagena de Indias is undoubtedly one of the jewels in Colombia’s crown.

Exuding a romantic, mythical charm, the city’s UNESCO-protected Old Town speaks of history and legend in its majestic Spanish-built city walls, beautifully grand colonial architecture, magnificent cathedrals, and cozy sidewalk cafés. Oozing a soulful Colombian culture, the old town plays host to a melting pot of local avant-garde artists, designers, and chefs who add to the Old Town’s unique flavour.

The outer town is slightly more chaotic, but no less charming. Trendy cafés are packed with fashionable cartagenos sipping espressos, chic restaurants are brimming with food aficionados wooing over Cartagena’s gastronomic scene, and beautiful white sandy beaches on the peninsula of Bocagrande are packed with glossy, bronzed sun-worshippers. A sultry nightlife offers five-star dining and dancing in an array of trendy eateries and nightclubs, while rows of luxury condominiums pay testament to the city’s burgeoning economy.

A short excursion from the old city is the breath-takingly beautiful Islas des Rosario, a spectacular archipelago made up of 27 tiny islands surrounded by the azure waters of the Caribbean. Visit Cartagena Colombia Rentals
